Apparatus
Theory
Specfic Gravity is normally defined as ratio of mass of material of a given volume and mass of equal volume of water.
Specific Gravity of cement is generally used in Concrete Mix design for moisture determination and quality of aggregate.
Procedure
Observation
Mass of empty dry flask = W gm
Mass of flask + water= W1 gm
Mass of saturated surface dry sample= W2 gm
Mass of flask+ water+ sample= W3 gm
Calculation
Specfic gravity of fine aggregate = W2/[ W2- (W3-W1)]

Specific Gravity of cement is generally used in Concrete Mix design for moisture determination and quality of aggregate.
Procedure
- Take sample of dry fine aggregate weigh 500g and fill it in Pycnometer
- Then fill Pycnometer full with water and cover it with conical cap (having a small hole at top).
- Slightly move the Pycnometer at inclined position such that all air bubbles get escaped.
- Then again fill till water level reached at hole of conical cap.
- Clean the Pycnometer from outside with clean and dry cloth.
- Weight the Pycnometer and let it be W1.
- Then empty the Pycnometer and clean it.
- Again fill completely Pycnometer till hole of conical cap.
- Again weight the Pycnometer with full of water and let ot be W2.
- Weight the empty Pycnometer let it be W3.
