We have all heard of electric cars, but not
of electric roads. The benefits of Electric car consist of large amount vary from environmental (100
percent emission free, promoting clean air) to financial ( lesser operating cost than a
regular car). The only major drawback is the need to charge the vehicle. For long distance, Electric vehicles
batteries are not suitable as heavy weight batteries can’t produce enough power and they are expensive too.
Rather than simply attempting to solve this
problem with larger, heavier batteries or by adding more charging stations.
Israeli startup ElectRoad design the special roads
that charge your car while driving.
The company major motto is to revolutionize
e- mobility and eliminate the dependency on oil. ElectRoad invests in a
unique technology that powers the vehicle wirelessly from the road.
The road's working is based on simple physics that change in magnetic field around or nearby coil produces electric current in the coil without even any physical contact.

Working of Electric Roads
The design of Electric Road enable them to provide enough energy to power vehicles and charge
their batteries too.
As per Oren Ezer, CEO of ElectRoad's company, the
electricity generated from renewable energy will be transfer to the road. Removing the battery resulting vehicles much lighter and requires less energy. Electric Roads with electric cars will cost efficient as compare to the diesel buses. Half the input price, output will be quick.
Electric Roads will induce a current in coils attached to the bottom of the
cars. These technology will comes with a lot of challenges. In one approach, the coils embed and power beneath the road. Another one is such alignment with the
coils on the cars which results in maximum efficiency.
The amount of energy that must be
transferred during the brief moments the car oases over the coils. ElectRoad
explains that the coils are switched on and off dynamically so that they don’t
waste energy when cars aren’t nearby.
The flexible technology only need copper and rubber materials. The deployment of technology is quick and easy. The deployment of the technology on one kilometre of road will take only half a day, from night to morning. In the
installation process, firstly an asphalt scraper digs 8 centimetre
deep trench. The wireless energy charging strips will be installed in the trench and
fills the trench back up with the asphalt. Smart inverters will installed on the sides of the road and provide real time communication. The electric vehicle with attached coil beneath the vehicles will receives power provided with a small air gap (approx 24 cm).
The ElectRoad has already performed successful
tests of the technology, and will be demoing the electric roads on a larger
scale.
