TYPE OF CEMENT
1.Acid resistant cement: These cement is composed of:
- acid-resistant aggregates such as quartz etc
- additive such as sodium fluosilicate
- aqueous solution of sodium silicate or soluble glass
The cement is used for acid resistant and heat resistant coatings of installation of chemical industry.
But it is not water resistant and fails when attacked by water and weak acids.
2.Colored cement: The cement of desired colour may be obtained by mixing minerals pigments with ordinary cement. The amount of minerals vary from 5 to 10% If mineraks exceeds from 10%,strength may affected.
Chromium oxide -green
Cobalt -blue
Iron oxide -brown,red,yellow
3.Quick setting cement: This cement is produced by adding a small percentage of aluminium sulphate and by finely grinding the cement. The setting start within 5min and become hard after 30 min.
4.Rapid hardening cement: The cement gains strength early than ordinary cement. But initial and final setting time remains same as ordinary cement. It is due to high percentage of tricalcium silicate upto 56%
The advantage of these cement:
- Light in weight
- Not damaged easily
- Require short period of curing
- Allow higher permissible stresses
5.White cement: It is ordinary cement but free from colouring oxides of iron, manganese or chromium.
Used for floor finishing, plaster finishing and ornamental work etc.But it is costlier than ordinary cement.
6.Expanding cement: The cement is produced by adding an expanding expanding medium like sulpho-aluminate and a stablising agent.
It is used for repairing the damaged concrete surfaces.
